"Time Tested" In this painting, I was inspired by my great Grandfather's ranch. The Howe Ranch on Beaver Creek road Shell Wyoming.

TIME TESTED - CARD - VERTICAL FOLD - JPE

This artwork presents a detailed and textured depiction of a rustic wooden fence post wrapped in barbed wire, set against a vast landscape background featuring a flat plain with some greenery and distant mountains beneath a softly varied sky. The artist has skillfully captured the grain and weathered quality of the wood, as well as the tension in the twisted wire, which creates a striking contrast with the expansive and somewhat muted natural environment behind it. The use of color highlights the warm earthy tones of the ground and wood, balanced by the cooler colors in the mountains and sky, generating a harmonious yet dynamic composition.

The attention to detail in the textures is commendable, lending the piece a strong sense of realism and tactile presence. The composition’s vertical emphasis with the posts draws the eye upward and invites contemplation on the relationship between human-made structures and the natural world. The distant mountains provide a sense of depth and scale, while the soft gradient in the sky conveys a calm atmosphere, enhancing the overall mood of the piece.

GAME PLAN - CARD - VERTICAL FOLD - JPEG_

This photo was taken by Katie Sikes and posted on Free Photos for Artists. I painted this photo for the days of 49 BHCAG Days of '49 art show 2024 "Game Plan" offers a quietly compelling glimpse into the world of the American cowboy, skillfully rendered through the watercolor medium. The decision to depict the cowboys from behind is particularly effective, immediately drawing the viewer into a sense of story and mystery—who are these figures, and where are they headed? The composition subtly invites us to walk (or ride) alongside them, honoring both their camaraderie and individuality.
Visually, the piece demonstrates a strong grasp of realism. The attention to color, especially in the contrast between the vibrant pink shirt and the somber black shirt, not only lends personality to each cowboy but also introduces a pleasing chromatic balance. The careful depiction of denim—a notoriously challenging fabric to capture in watercolor—further attests to the artist’s technical confidence. Your rendering of the horses, particularly the mottled gray coat and the rich brown hue, feels genuine and alive, enhanced by the texture and gradation that are hallmarks of adept watercolor work.

This artwork vividly encapsulates the thrill and physical poetry of a rodeo moment, skillfully balancing dynamic motion with careful detail. The choice to center the scene around the striking interaction between cowboy and horse immediately draws the viewer into the heart of the action. The use of color—particularly the contrast between the cowboy’s blue shirt and the horse’s striking brown-and-white coat—works beautifully, guiding the eye and creating a sense of immediacy and drama. There’s a notable understanding of anatomy present: the arched back of the bucking horse and the energized posture of the cowboy transmit both the unpredictability and athleticism inherent in such a scene.
The attention to detail is a particular strength. Elements such as the texture in the horse’s mane and the intricate rendering of the cowboy’s gear show both observation and care, lending a sense of authenticity and tactile richness to the work. The background, rendered in muted, earthy tones, smartly refrains from competing for attention. Instead, it provides just enough context and depth to support the central figures, while the simple horizontal bars subtly anchor the scene, ensuring the lively action remains the undeniable focal point.

This is a beautifully detailed watercolor piece that captures three horses standing behind a barbed wire fence. Each horse is distinct in color and posture, showcasing their individuality:

  1. Left Horse – A gray or white horse with subtle shading, standing with its head slightly down, possibly in a relaxed or contemplative state.

  2. Middle Horse – A soral horse with a white blaze on its face, looking directly forward with a curious or gentle expression.

  3. Right Horse – A golden palomino with a light mane, facing toward the center horse with its ears perked and mouth slightly open, possibly mid-neigh or engaging playfully.

The barbed wire fence running horizontally across the painting adds a sense of separation while also emphasizing the rural setting. The clean, white background puts full focus on the horses, allowing their forms, expressions, and coat colors to take center stage. The shadows beneath the horses' hooves add a grounded, realistic touch.

Overall, the painting conveys both grace and personality, celebrating the natural beauty and subtle emotional presence of these animals. The title adds a charming, affectionate layer, suggesting these horses are admired and loved, much like a group of dear friends.

"Red or White?"

300.00  Watercolor Painting 12x9

By Julie Werbelow

Paper; Bee Paper 100% cotton  &  140 lbs. Cold press made in the USA Paints; Winsor Newton watercolors

This painting is a minimalist and elegant still life that features two wine bottles and two wine glasses. The composition centers on a bottle of red wine and a bottle of white wine, each partially full and capped, placed closely side by side. In front of the bottles are two glasses—one filled with red wine and the other with white—matching the bottles behind them.

The style is clean and modern, with soft edges and subtle shadows, creating a balanced and pleasing symmetry. The background is a neutral off-white, which draws attention to the deep tones of the red wine and the light golden hues of the white. The overall mood is quiet and refined, suggesting a calm moment of relaxation or celebration.

The frame is a brushed gold with a soft metallic sheen, adding a touch of sophistication and warmth to the piece. This artwork would be right at home in a kitchen, wine cellar, or dining area, evoking the pleasures of good wine and quiet indulgence.
